Natural Ingredients for a DIY Wrinkle Release Spray: What to Use and Avoid

If you're anything like us, you probably prefer spending your time on just about anything other than dealing with the hassle of ironing. Irons can be outdated and, quite frankly, a total pain to use. But sometimes our clothes sit rolled up in a ball or smushed in a corner, leaving them far too wrinkled to wear. Before you pull out the iron, give this tried-and-true hack a try, and create your own DIY wrinkle remover, created from all-natural ingredients.

Gather Your Materials

Before we dive into this quick and straightforward project, it's essential to gather all the necessary items. Do you have any wrinkled clothes on hand? Excellent. Now, let's locate an empty spray bottle. (If you don't already have one, you can often find these at your local Dollar Store, and they come in handy for a wide range of household projects. We recommend picking one up if you can.) Additionally, grab a 1/8th cup measuring spoon, a ½ teaspoon measuring spoon, and your preferred all-natural fabric softener. And if you're not near a sink, ensure you have some fresh, clean water within reach.

Make Your Mixture

Using the measuring cup, add 1/8 cup of water to your spray bottle. Next, use the measuring spoon to add ½ teaspoon of fabric softener. If you’re looking to make an all-natural wrinkle-release spray, be sure to check the ingredients in your fabric softener before adding it. Try to avoid synthetic fragrances, too many chemicals, and compounds you’ve never heard of.

Shake it Up

Put the sprayer cap on your bottle and shake it vigorously, ensuring the mixture fully combines. This will take a few seconds. (Pro-tip: If this recipe doesn’t look like enough to cover the scope of your project, you can always double it and add the extra to the bottle. This might be wise for larger clothing items or stubborn wrinkles.)

Spray the Offending Item

Generously spray the wrinkled areas of your item of clothing with your newly made wrinkle spray. Be sure to get the wrinkles damp enough to loosen up, but they do not have to be soaked. Just spray enough that the mixture is able to penetrate the garment so that each wrinkle can be released.

Reshape the Garment

Using your hands, straighten and shape up any collars and/or cuffs on the item of clothing, ensuring any wrinkles are removed. Then, use your hands to smooth out any remaining wrinkles in the body of your clothing item. Once this is completed to your satisfaction, hang the garment and allow it to fully dry before wearing.

Additional Wrinkle Release Option: Dryer Sheet Method

If you're looking for an alternative method that might, try the Dryer Sheet Method. Lightly dampen a dryer sheet and toss it in the dryer with your wrinkled clothes. Set the dryer to high heat and run it for 10 minutes. The dryer sheet will help release wrinkles and add a fresh scent to your clothes.
